Inspiration Color Board – Bacchus
Who doesn’t love their pet? I believe we choose our pets based on a variety of reasons: species, allergies, care regiment, texture, color, and most of all attitude. When I was shown a photo of three 4-week old kittens, the one in the center flanked by the other two engulfed by masculine hands was the one I knew I wanted. He had a mischievous angst about him that resounded within my soul.
Little did I realize this past few weeks when we were re-creating our dining room, our colors were inspired by our tabbies. While this particular palette doesn’t exactly reflect our new space, this does pull vibrant and muted tones from Bacchus’ appearance.
How to use this color chart:
If you’re a guy, you’ll probably lean toward the browns and greens -and that’s great. Just remember to offset the weightiness of the dark hues with a punch of color, this will add a sense of liveliness to your decor. Plus, you’ll want to balance your space with a bit a feminine charm to keep the yin and yang in check. If you live alone, a bit of organic shapes coupled with your rigid structures will harmonize and welcome in your female friends. If you’re already in a relationship, you’ll want to double check that there’s a bit of both in your space.
Ladies, typically you go a little heavy on the pastels -not that there’s anything wrong with that- but if you’re looking for a little male companionship, you’ll want anchor your airiness with a few dark accent pieces. Also consider adding balance to your ruching and ruffles with a little clean structure. Remember: Sleek lines can also be erotic.
How this translates into Your Space:
Applying Vibrant Hues
The hard graphic lines are soften with color sculpting hues of terracotta orange and cream. Accents of deep browns, blacks, and amber invite energy and activity. Ambient light also softens the frosted linear windows off to the right, adding a hint of sophistication.
Adding a Spanish flair in your bath with tile is always a winning combination. The softness of the earthy colors on the tile really mute the hardness of the ceramic material as the edgy hardness of the cabinets yield gently to the green wash. Succulents, shades also help to add a bit of feeling to the space.
Applying Metropolitan Muted Hues
The following rooms have very strong angles, lending to more of a masculine space. To balance this heaviness, look to add a touch of softness with pillows, soft rounded chair, drapes, and creaminess.
A warm palate mix of materials is shown here. What makes this sophisticated is are the range of tones with just a pop of color.
